Emily M in Baildon
For those who may not already know, the Tour de Yorkshire route passes through Baildon this year on Otley Road. The Town Council is leading a group of community organisations and local businesses to plan a suiting Baildon welcome for the cyclists and ... [ more ]

Why

Dina P
in Shipley
Why was the march on 21st January in Shipley (1,400 ) reported nationally but absolutely nothing on local news? Look North etc never even mentioned it. Described to me as 'best event in Shipley for ages'
Dina P
I didn't want to get invvex with this but... Chris W!! Really! How do people 'earn' human rights? By being human!! B
Dina P
Sorry chris, your comments make little sense to me! Humans are female too! And humane!
Dina P
All the females I respect admire and like have nothing to do with anything you have been saying. I was commenting on whether D Trump has the mandate of the people! Ps locking people up and throwing away the key is no longer an option! More positive ... [ more ]

Cold weather and homeless

in Shipley
If you see/are approached by homeless people in Saltaire looking for help, please be aware that under the cold weather regulations they should be offered a place for the night if the temperature drops below 0. Please contact Hope Housing on ... [ more ]

Hope housing, and others, operate all year round. It's not an easy situation and I think we all feel a bit helpless!

Washouse dirt

Dina P
in Shipley
Might I ask that Saltaire residents living in the proximity of the Washouse Gardens on Caroline Street keep a watch out for whoever is allowing their dog to foul on the slabs and not cleaning up after them? Today's count was 3 piles! This is an ... [ more ]

Help in garden

Dina P
in Shipley
I'm looking for someone to help me with a little light gardening? Any one out there? I've got the tools ( I think!)

Closure of Caroline street lavatories

Dina P
in Shipley
My local councillors cannot tell me how much saving the closure of Caroline St lavatories would make, as they don't know the current expense of keeping them open. To comment directly try https://bradford.moderngov.co.uk/mgconsultationdisplay.aspx?ID=68
Dina P
The council won't have bad publicity as they have 'sloping shoulders' ( not their fault) And the local MP doesn't seem bothered and the local Visitor Information Centre is also threatened with closure, so there will be nowhere to direct anyone where ... [ more ]

Cat /house sitter

Dina P
in Shipley
I'm looking for someone to look after the cats and house when I go away for a few days. Anyone interested?

Cats

Alan N
in Bingley
I am spending a lot of money getting the garden in shape after it went wild while we were not in our bungalow after the floods. But every time the gardener gets a section tamed cats think it is their right to come and use it as their toilet. The ... [ more ]
Dina P
I beg to differ! Dog owners walk their dogs through the streets of Saltaire on leads, and are present when their charges squat and perform. Most responsible dog owners carry a poo bag and deal with it, but there are plenty who don't! And it's often ... [ more ]
Dina P
It's also a control issue, one does not 'own' a cat, one (or in many cases two) feed and house it. Pigeons mess in city centres but people feed them, seagulls, ducks and Canadian geese mess on the Aire and the canal banks, but people feed them! ... [ more ]
Dina P
And one reason for troublesome cats is that there are too many 'owners' who don't/won't have their animals neutered, but just let them breed away!
Dina P
I've got it! Don't appreciate being called 'Hun' by a stranger or reminded of the horrors of the world I live in too! Guess social media is living down to my expectations! Lets stop the cat fight and do something positive!

Saltaire canteen

Dina P
in Shipley
Sad to see this closed due to illness. There is a notice asking anyone with chef/managerial skills to contact them and help out. Anyone out there?

Single bed

Loos

Dina P
in Shipley
It would appear the public lavatories in Caroline St are due to close because of council finance cuts. I have started a petition on Change. org asking our local MP, Philip Davies, to step in and stop this closure. Feel free to add your support
Dina P
Sorry not that competant! Change.org should find it, or I can include you in if I had your email address. News of Caroline st loo closures can be found on Saltaire sentinel. sentinel@saltairevillage.info

Film production

What does everyone think about this? There are two 8pm finishes. Not sure where I can park my car when I get home. They have suggested to park on Albert Terrace - I know there won't be enough space. Just want to get home after a long day at work not ... [ more ]

Who is filming? And are they paying the council for the privilege? If so could the money be used to keep the Caroline Street lavatories open? Anyone from Saltaire Village Society have a view/comment!

Read our new waste and recycling email bulletin which includes news of Christmas bin days, garden waste bins, a new trial of smart bins and fly-tipping. Why not sign up for future updates and select other topics you are interested in following.
Dina P
Of course, we could all buy/accept less plastic in packaging etc then the problem of disposing of it would be reduced Refuse, reuse, recycle
Dina P
Not at the shops I use in Saltaire, or at Farmers markets. Or the oastler market in Bradford. I'm sure there are more!

Happy New Year

We hope you've had a great weekend, don't forget to recycle all you can, especially those glass bottles from last night! http://bit.ly/2hvVAxL
Dina P
With regard to knowing when to put out which bin, I have the dates 'writted on a piece of paper' which I have pinned up. If in doubt I check which bins the neighbours have put out. How we coped before 'Apps'

You are welcome! Thanks for the waterbutt, I'm now told ideally we need a green or black one! World Heritage! Don't worry, yours will be put to good use! Anyone else out there fancy a cake for a black or green waterbutt?
