Every morning I look forward to reading Streetlife to hear what everyone is up to, giving something away, asking for recommendations, interesting debates etc. Just being able to help someone when they are in need is a feel good factor. I can't imagine ... [ more ]
story in national press this morning , county considering a local referendum to pay more on social care. What was your pay increase last year ?
I heard those paying by direct debit are paying the increase already ahead of the referendum in May.
Some of you will be aware of a care home being built on the old Whitehill Farm land. The care home is nearly finished and the developers are now proposing to build 41 two/three bedroom flats on some of the remaining land. There is much opposition to ... [ more ]
I believe we have a speaker to speak against at the meeting.
Hi Everyone, Is there any news as to what is happening with the vacant premises next to Waitrose in Bagshot?
Cotswold Clothing is one rumour, also DIY.
I keep getting calls (sometimes twice a day) from a recorded lady saying "Hi - now that winter's here etc etc" and offering some sort of insulation (I think). I've pressed the "More information" button (by accident) and the "No more calls" button and ... [ more ]
Had my first "Now that winters here" call in July!
I received a phonecall today, as I recover from Man-Flu, from a 'company' who seemed to be keen to make sure that my computer was protected from security problems. (Telephone number 01724 846902 - using the 1471 'who rang me' facility.) The male, ... [ more ]
My husband pretended to follow the bloke's instructions once and when asked what the computer message said, told him "beware scumbags trying to get hold of your money!" That particular scumbag swore and rang off.
It was mentioned in the street light turn off thread but I thought it was important enough for a new thread of its own. I was at a local residents council meeting (18 months ago)and a panel of Councillors stated that parking on verges and pavements in ... [ more ]
Kings Ride is appalling. They park on the pavement right next to a holly hedge with not much room to walk through, but worse still it is right on the corner with College Ride obstructing the view for cars turning out of College Ride.
Is it me? We used to always buy our food in M&S and most of our clothes. But over the last few years, and the last year in particular, everything has gone down hill. The food items are getting smaller and smaller with cheaper and cheaper ... [ more ]
I find the sizing to be erratic so impossible to buy for someone else even if you know their size. No two size 12s are ever the same.
No wonder they are now selling some stores because their clothes range are no longer making a profit. they should read this blog for some useful tips!
Clint W I think M&S could do with some of your ideas. Think they might take you on as a consultant?
Would anyone support this idea to reduce mobile phone abuse while driving? Work with SCC, SHBC and the police 'safety partnerships' (I use the phrase loosely) to provide a mechanism for the public to report all users spotted 'handling' their phones. ... [ more ]
Great idea, especially after the deaths reported in the paper the other day caused by this very thing.
I've just recieved a call from someone, male, foreign, telling me I have a problem with my computer. Having told him, more than once, that I haven't he persisted so I hung up. Doing 1471 to find it was a Camberley number, 0127631710. We rang the ... [ more ]
We have had so many of these "computer" calls, my husband decided to play them at their own game. He went along with what they wanted him to do, press this key, press that one even though he wasn't at his computer. What does it say on the screen they ... [ more ]
Foraged sweet chestnuts made into festive chestnut jam First time I've made this and although it's fiddly getting the meat from the chestnut it's definitely worth the faff Truly amazing on hot buttered toast Anyone else have suggestions for sweet ... [ more ]
Chinese friend's recipe - split shell then boil for 10 mins. Shell, put in some fresh water with sugar and soy sauce to taste & boil again for about 15 mins. Going to try it tomorrow. Do they keep spiders away like conkers do?
I came across an article by Sean Kim entitled “8 Life Changing Skills you can learn in 6 months”. Number 2 on the list, public speaking, and this is what he had to say: “Research shows that people fear public speaking more than death itself. ... [ more ]
If you want to try it out first. U3A has a good course (only for retirees though).
Thanks Shane, but I was a pupil and have finished the course now. Harry F used to help us out who I'm sure you know - certainly couldn't compete with him. He could make the dullest subject sound riveting.
I really enjoyed the course I did, but like comment above, don't have the time at the moment. (PS Shanine - I think U3A's only £12 to £15 a year so when the time comes you'll be surprised at the wide variety of courses!)😉
For me it would be a DIY store and electrical retailer. I think there's a Toolstation or Screwfix on the industrial estate, but I don't think you can browse in them like B&Q. Did Dixons close down because lack of sales? Also does anyone know ... [ more ]
Bring back "straight through trains at Camberley & make Reading passengers change at Ascot. They already have a fast service to Paddington. Please could we have John Lewis, Debenhams or Selfridge in Camberley?
Horrific journey last Saturday. Boarded train at Camberley @ 09.30 hrs to go to Waterloo via Ascot. No engineering works planned - got to Waterloo @ 12.05 hrs. Technical difficulties they said. Took nearly 3 hours and so many people had their day ... [ more ]
Living within walking distance of Camberley station, I try not to add to the car congestion on the roads by driving to Brookwood, Sunningdale etc but will consider bussing it to Farnborough 'tho Geoffrey B's experience not encouraging. We're stuck all ... [ more ]
As many of you know the developers have recently put another application in to build 41 new flats on the Whitehill Farm, Kings Ride site. Objections need to be submitted in writing by 10 NOVEMBER. Planning application ref 16/0779. If you live ... [ more ]
On looking on the council website yesterday there were only 19 objections so far. We need a lot more than that - tell your friends about it!
Hi, Does anyone know why there has been horrendous traffic backed up on the Frimley Road from the A30 every rush hour recently??
I think they are only stopping work for December, then continuing after.
What a fiasco....I know not what else to say...
M3 and Meadows misery, stress in Stanhope Road and blocked Bagshot. With roadworks in Camberley town centre we are being gridlocked!
The authorities have tried forcing people out of their cars and it hasn't worked and never will. When is the meeting about the A30?
As an illustration to our poor rail service, on Saturday I caught the 9.17 am train at Camberley to go to London. That was held up 10 minutes because oncoming train to Guildford was late so missed connection at Ascot. Spent 1 hour at Ascot because of ... [ more ]
The borough council are buying the Mall and other buildings - perhaps they may be able to make Camberley a "destination town" after all, though I'm not holding my breath!
Re pedestrianising the High Street, would the shopkeepers be happy with that?
Planning application 16/0779 . Comments to council by 9th November. Extra traffic in Kings Ride could be an issue?
It's not big enough to be a proper care village like one called Whitely with shops etc. so they just want to get as many care "residencies" onto it as possible
Objections MUST be in by 09 November using the word OBJECT in your letter.
Planning application 16/0779 is in now, comments to Council by 9th November. The care home on Whitehall Farm is almost complete but now they want to double it's size with housing units to make a 'care village'. Will Kings Ride cope with all that traffic?

I am selling my washing machine - Hoover WDYN D washer/dryer, white, 20 months' old, perfect working order W60D56H85 cm for £200, collection only (Camberley), but will be using it until 5th July. Anyone interested?
Three ponies seen trotting nicely down the A30 towards the Meadows 11/11.30 am on Friday, a huge queue of traffic behind them. No riders or saddles, they peeled off onto the grass outside the Arena. Anyone know what happened to them?
